The 5th “Oscars” of public procurement leaders awards to take place in Lithuania
The launch of the annual competition for the best public procurement leaders in Lithuania has been announced. Now in its fifth year, the competition evaluates the most advanced, transparent, and impactful public procurement initiatives in the country. Contracting authorities can submit applications for this year’s awards until June 19.
“Green procurement practices in Lithuania are becoming a strong example across the region. As Europe moves forward on the path of competitiveness, it is particularly important for each country to contribute consistently by applying environmental, innovation, and social responsibility criteria. By raising quality standards, we promote progress and create a citizen-friendly environment where services, roads, buildings, and other products are high-quality, safe, and accessible to all,” says Minister of Environment Kastytis Žuromskas.
It is observed that more and more contracting authorities in Lithuania are choosing not only economically advantageous but also environmentally friendly solutions. Green public procurement is becoming an integral part of strategic planning. It reduces climate impact, promotes the circular economy, and ensures more efficient use of resources.
“Public procurement is a multi-billion-euro market that significantly contributes to business development, the creation of high value-added jobs, and the implementation of innovations. Last year alone, the value of public procurement in our country exceeded €10 billion, with more than 1.1 million procedures carried out by 3,400 organizations. We therefore invite public procurement professionals to share their experience and nominate potential candidates,” says Minister of Economy and Innovation Edvinas Grikšas.
To recognize the most outstanding participants in public procurement, leaders will be selected in four categories: innovative procurement, socially responsible procurement, green procurement, and best procurement practices.
The competition is open to contracting authorities and entities that have carried out or are carrying out public procurement procedures between January 1, 2025, and June 19, 2026.
The Public Procurement Leaders Awards are organized by the Ministry of Economy and Innovation of the Republic of Lithuania, the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Lithuania, and the Public Procurement Office. The winners will be invited to present their best practices at an event taking place this autumn, where they will receive letters of appreciation, digital Public Procurement Leader badges, and opportunities for dissemination of best practices.
In 2025, approximately €10 billion was spent on public procurement, accounting for about 12% of Lithuania’s GDP.
