What challenges do cyclists face and what changes are still needed for everyone to choose cycling for their journeys? This is discussed in the latest episode of the podcast "Green Talks"
Cyclists face numerous challenges that can hinder their enjoyment of biking trips, including:
- A lack of safe and comfortable bike lanes,
- Poor lighting at night,
- Difficulty finding reliable routes.
According to Nemunas Abukauskas, Advisor on Sustainable Mobility at the Ministry of Transport, addressing these issues requires the development of infrastructure that does not merely cater to car drivers but encourages convenient and safe traffic conditions for all road users. This is why the Ministry of Transport is currently updating the regulatory framework for bike transport infrastructure planning and design, which will outline key urban planning and infrastructure design principles, taking into account the traffic intensity of all vehicles.
While waiting for these changes in urban planning, cyclists’ issues will also be addressed by the innovative mobile app "Burbi," which helps users plan safe and comfortable biking routes using real-time information.
Still unsure whether to switch to a bike? Take advantage of the opportunity provided by the Environmental Projects Management Agency to receive a €1,000 compensation payment for purchasing a bicycle after deregistering an old car.
