Want to be more sustainable without spending a penny? Try eco- driving!
Today, everyone can be more sustainable without spending a penny! One of the simplest ways is to drive eco-friendly. Not only will you save fuel, but you'll also protect your vehicle and travel safely. Most importantly, you'll reduce your negative impact on the environment. Here are a few simple tips to help reduce fuel consumption by up to 15%:
- Anticipate traffic.
Predict possible traffic changes (traffic flow and the actions of other road users: braking, maneuvering, etc.). Keep a larger distance from the vehicle ahead (~3–4 seconds) so that you can make the most of the vehicle's inertia whenever possible. - Maintain a steady speed.
Drive smoothly and choose higher gears at low engine revs. Driving at high speeds (>80–90 km/h) significantly increases fuel consumption, so try to maintain a consistent, optimal speed. - Shift to a higher gear as early as possible.
Shift gears when the engine revs are low (~2,500 rpm when driving a gasoline-powered car). This will reduce engine load and fuel consumption. - Regularly check tire pressure.
At least once a month, and also before long trips. Low tire pressure can pose a traffic safety risk and waste more fuel. - Use energy wisely.
Electrical devices in the car (air conditioning, heating, etc.) require more fuel. Avoid unnecessary energy use. Also, don't carry unnecessary items and avoid additional aerodynamic drag (e.g., a roof rack, uncleaned snow, etc.).
