The Success Story of the "Lazdijai veža" Project Discussed in the New Episode of the "Žalieji Pokalbiai" Podcast
The Environmental Projects Management Agency (APVA) presents the latest episode of the "Žalieji Pokalbiai" podcast – "Sustainable Mobility: The Success Story of 'Lazdijai veža'." The episode discusses the pilot sustainable mobility project implemented in the Lazdijai district municipality in 2023, initiated as part of the "Energy Efficiency Improvement in Lithuania" project. The project established a door-to-door mobility and on-demand service system, with 100,000 kilometers traveled in the first year.
The project provided free electric-powered transportation, helping residents reduce transportation costs and save money for other important expenses or investments. The mobility service, which complements standard public transport services, improved residents' access to necessary services, healthcare facilities, shops, cultural and other important places, particularly empowering seniors and residents without their own vehicles who could not reach public transport stops. This service encouraged participation in community activities, social interaction, and strengthened community ties.
The discussion features Ausma Miškinienė, Mayor of Lazdijai District, and Birutė Karakaitė, co-author of the "Lazdijai veža" idea. During the conversation, the speakers share their experiences and insights about the project's implementation, its impact on the community, and its potential for replication in other municipalities.
The "Žalieji Pokalbiai" series is part of the LIFE Integrated Project "Energy Efficiency Improvement in Lithuania," which is partially funded by the European Union and the Republic of Lithuania.
