Regulation (EU) No 1293/2013 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 11 December 2013 on the establishment of a Programme for the Environment and Climate Action (LIFE) and repealing Regulation (EC) No 614/2007 (OJ 2013 L 347, p. 185) established an environment and climate action programme covering the period from 1 January 2014 to 31 December 2020 (hereinafter the LIFE Programme).

The financial envelope for the implementation of the LIFE Programme for the period 20142020 is €3,456,655,000.

During this period, the LIFE Programme consists of two sub-programmes: Environment (€2.59 billion) and Climate Change (€864 billion).

The sub-programme for Climate Change intends to support the projects aimed at mitigation of climate change, adaptation and climate change management and publicity.

Calls for proposals are announced annually by the European Commission. In 2020, a call was scheduled on 2 April.

From 2021, the new phase of the LIFE Programme will start, and will continue until 2027. A total of €45 billion will be allocated for this period.
